Local History Month - 1 May - 31st May 2008
Local History Month aims to increase awareness of history
in a local setting. It is a great way for groups to highlight
local history and for local people to get involved.
Activities happen across the UK and include trips, library
exhibitions and local lectures. Last year over 250 organisations
participated with events such as family history workshops
in Nottingham, Manchester and Liverpool, online debates with
www.headlinehistory.co.uk
and fascinating lectures such as the talk by BBC’s Dr
Nick Barrett on ‘Personal Heritage and the Media’
at the Museum for Garden History, London.
Each year the event goes from strength to strength, events
will be added regularly throughout the year so please keep
checking the site and adding your own events.
If you are an organisation that wishes to take part we can
help by including your information on our searchable database.
We also have a free poster template, which you can use to
publicise your event. Please put details of any local history
event you are organising throughout the year on to this site.
For people who have already held their events please send
details and any pictures to the following email address so
that we can put them up on to the website: simon.brown@history.org.uk
If you wish to add an event you will need to be registered
with us. Once registered you'll need to login
to our members area.
